What happened
Signed by Donald Trump on June 22, 2026, Executive Order 14412 mandates that federal agencies transition their high-value assets and high-impact systems to NIST-approved Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) for key establishment by December 31, 2030, and for digital signatures by December 31, 2031. Agencies must appoint a PQC migration lead within 30 days and submit a migration plan to the Director of OMB and the National Cyber Director. The Secretary of Homeland Security, through CISA, in coordination with NIST, will release public guidance on cryptographic bill of materials within 270 days.
